About the Artist

Bobbi Linkemer is an artist and author. She has written twenty-nine books and helped many aspiring authors writers write and publish their books. She began her lifetime in art as a child and has continued to draw and paint for more than eighty years. As a teenager, she attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and won several scholarships to the Art Institute of Chicago. In her freshman year in college, she majored in art and continued to paint throughout her adult life. In 2020, she moved to Saint Augustine, Florida, where she took classes from Jenny Keyser, an internationally known artist who has helped her grow and develop creatively. Many of these paintings reflect Bobbi’s love affair with Saint Augustine.

Artist’s Statement

When I tell people that I live in Saint Augustine, Florida, they are intrigued. There is so much here to be proud of — things that are known far beyond Florida — Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, and our fantastic museums. Equally famous are the legendary Bridge of Lions, the famous Nights of Lights during the holidays, and our exquisite churches. But most of all, I love St. Augustine’s many wonderful art galleries that show work by local as well as nationally known artists and craftsmen.

St. Augustine is unlike anywhere I have ever lived. I grew up and raised my children in big cities. St. Augustine is a small town steeped in history and art. It may be hard to believe that one’s life could completely change in her mid-eighties, but mine has. Living here and taking classes has reawakened my long-dormant artistic side. That is the gift the little city of St. Augustine has given me in my ninth decade.

St. Augstine Landmarks

Saint Augustine, Florida, is known for many things: its status as the oldest city in the country, its lavish architecture, beautiful bridges, picturesque downtown streets, charming art galleries, and, of course, many historic landmarks. It’s almost impossible to walk a block without seeing at least one. They range from the oldest schoolhouse and what remains of the old fort to magnificent churches, hotels, and a college. Its waterways, beaches, hotels, and unique attractions are all nearby.

Rustic Hideaways and Cabins

I am painting houses—small, rustic houses located in the woods. Many of them are A-frames. Some have reflective windows. Each one is surrounded by the colors of a particular season. They are somewhat mysterious since only the outside is visible, perhaps prompting curiosity about what they may look like inside. The paintings are not intended to be realistic. In fact, they look like illustrations for a children’s book.

The first is a somewhat simple, little gray A-frame covered with shingles. It appeared in a photo array of sites in Ukraine before the country was invaded and destroyed. I kept coming back to it so many times, I knew I had to try to capture it.
